About Us

Doug comes from a farming background (cattle, sheep and mixed arable), trained in farm management and subsequently spent 17 years in the malting industry, supplying the brewing and distilling industries, before setting up Grieve Strategic to broaden his business horizons. Using his commercial experience of business management and training at Henley Business School, Grieve Strategic focused on developing strategy plans for many and varied businesses.

Doug has a wide-ranging experience in business management and strategy covering operations, commercial, financial and corporate governance functions (both as a statutory director and company secretary).

He has an extensive network of contacts in the water, farming and food processing industries, which more recently he engaged to develop the Biosolids Assurance Scheme for the water industry.

With some 36 years of business experience, Doug still enjoys new challenges and making a difference. Doug is responsible for the overall management of the business, whilst specialising in quality assurance and business strategy.

Matt grew up in rural Shropshire in and around farming before gaining undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in environmental science. He has since worked in environmental science from both a research and consultancy perspective for 15 years, initially focusing on diffuse pollution and catchment management, before specialising in organic material management.

He is a FACTS qualified advisor specialising in the use of materials on land. Matt provides advice to material producers/recyclers regarding beneficial uses, regulatory compliance and alternative processing/treatment options. He has been responsible for the technical delivery of a range of key research and consultancy projects for different government departments and commercial customers, specifically, with regard to the beneficial and potential negative properties of organic and other materials.

Matt is an experienced public speaker, lecturer and trainer who frequently speaks on the legal and commercial considerations of recycling materials to land. He has written legislation, good practice, book chapters, peer review papers as well as countless reports.

Matt leads the technical delivery and is responsible for the commercial development of the business and customer management.

Tracy began her working career with 10 years in the chemical industry, including paper manufacturing. Then, 15 years ago she became involved with testing and quality control on treatment sites in the environmental sector. She has over 13 years experience in accounts management and business administration.

Tracy is responsible for the smooth running of the Grieve Strategic business operations including accounts management.

Alice grew up in the south west of England and inspired by the love of the environment around her she gained her undergraduate degree in Ocean Science and specialised in Environmental Protection and Pollution. Since university Alice has gained experience in several aspects of environmental management operations, which include hazardous & non-hazardous landfill and restoration, leachate treatment and management, and most recently biosolids transportation, storage and spreading.

She has gained qualifications in health and safety, compliance and auditing, management of transport, landfill and land spreading operations. Alice has been responsible for the creation and implementation of standardised and effective compliance and health and safety related processes as well as driving performance within tight budget constraints, adapting to changing legislation and achieving client satisfaction.

With her wide-ranging experience in management of recycling activities, Alice will support the Grieve Strategic team by continuing to build and nurture client relationships and business development, as well as support project delivery.

Having completed his biology degree in Manchester, Richard spent 25 years at United Utilities. His career began in operations, where he managed front line teams and developed broad wastewater experience in various roles covering wastewater networks, sewage treatment works, and sludge treatment centres. He subsequently moved into a project manager role to deliver company wide operational change and efficiency projects.

For the past 12 years, Richard focused his expertise on strategy development, particularly in the areas of bioresources, carbon and waste. As the Head of Bioresources Strategy, he led the company submission to Ofwat in 2019 for the bioresources business. In the last 5 years his leadership extended to the national level, where he collaborated with environmental and economic regulators and wider stakeholders to tackle the sector's most pressing challenges, including the national strategy for bioresources.

Now, as the Director of Strategy for Grieve Strategic, Richard continues to offer leadership through services to the water and waste sectors, supporting strategy and planning functions as well as operational delivery and regulatory relations.

Maxine was raised on a dairy farm in Shropshire, where she developed a strong practical understanding of farming life, land management and the realities of agricultural operations.

Maxine has over 20 years of experience working with quality management systems and regulatory standards, providing robust technical oversight across complex operations. She is particularly skilled at translating detailed regulatory requirements into clear, workable processes, supporting teams to deliver safe, compliant and sustainable outcomes. Her experience includes the creation and implementation of standard operating procedures, along with strong technical leadership in regulated environments.

Alongside her full-time role, Maxine completed a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences Research. This commitment strengthened her analytical thinking, technical confidence, and ability to apply scientific principles in real-world environmental and operational settings.

Maxine is passionate about maintaining high technical standards while fostering positive, open working relationships. She values clear communication and enjoys working collaboratively to talk through challenges, explore options, and find practical, effective solutions that work for everyone involved.
